“Someone you know very well is someone you and your family spend time with a lot!”

Turning on your child’s Belly Brain needs to only happen once. It’s a skill like learning how to ride a bike. Once they learn about it and how to listen to it, it will stay with them their entire lifetime.

The threats that your child will face on a daily basis, things like bullies at school, riding a bike safely or playing around water, will all rely on their Belly Brain to some degree to always keep them a little bit safer.

For example, when that bike helmet is not on, they will feel very uncomfortable if they are taught to always wear one. Kids who tune into their Belly Brain can apply it both consciously and subconsciously to many situations.

What The Belly Brain Is Really For

Podcast #10

Keeping your child safer from child abuse is a scary subject for parents. Knowing how to be safer around other people does not mean it will happen.

“A stranger is someone you don’t know very well!”

Teaching your child about their Belly Brain is really a personal safety technique they can use when you are not around to protect them. Specifically, it is a great defense mechanism from potential forms of child abuse.

Many child abuse victims tell their stories that as abuse victims, their natural instincts that something was very wrong did go off. They just didn’t know how to listen to them or what to do. The Belly Brain teaches your child to listen and what to do if they ever are in a similar situation.

Yes, it’s a scary subject for any parent to face. However, it’s like wearing a seat belt: better safe than sorry. Just because your child can use their Belly Brain does not mean they will be a child abuse victim. It simply means they are prepared. It also means they will be able to have a greater degree of safety in other areas, too!

“Mom and Dad will listen and help you!”

When your child’s Belly brain goes off, they need to know that they need to find you right away.

Every person needs someone they can “go to” and talk to about anything. Your young child is the same way. No matter what their age, they need a “go to” person. We encourage you Mom and Dad, to be that person for your child. When they do come to you, be calm and in control no matter what they say. It’s the only way they can truly trust the entire safety process we set up with the Belly Brain.

When they are young, it’s very easy to be the one they seek for comfort, help and support. As they grow, nurture that relationship. You always want to be there, especially when they reach the teenage years, as their trusted “go to” person who can help them in tough times.

“When your Belly Brain talks to you, go find Mom or Dad!”

When your child’s Belly brain goes off, they need to know that they need to find you right away.

If your child ever finds themselves one-on-one with an inappropriate adult, whether its in your home, next door or at school, their Belly Brain will go off and talk to them.

They need to know that when it does, when it “talks” to them, they are to leave the situation immediately and go find you or another trusted adult. Then , they need to tell you what happened. It may be as simple as, “My Belly Brain is talking to me.” You listen calmly and respond appropriately.

Make sure you commend your child for acting on their instinct, their Belly Brain.
